Our Global Engineering Network Americas team is hosting an international event to discuss plastics, COVID-19's impact on pollution, and potential recycling solutions.

The event will have participation from leading organisations including 4Ocean, Rice University's Baker Institute for public policy, Oregon State University and the US Department of Energy.
While the invention of plastics has greatly increased people’s quality of living, finding its way into every aspect of life from electronics and toys, to fashion and houseware, to transportation and healthcare, its versatility and durability have made it nearly impossible to live without but also difficult to get rid of at the end of its use. Somewhat unique to this challenge during COVID-19 is the increase in single-use plastics for sanitary convenience, as well as the stalling in public services like disposal and recycling of waste. Effectively managing plastics at their end of life is a growing problem for today’s society.
This online event will feature a panel discussion and interactive question and answer sessions with industry experts and early career engineers from many of the sectors crucial to the battle against plastics pollution.

We will look at the engineering and policy challenges involved in recycling plastics and solutions including alternative materials. We'll also ask how early career individuals can get involved in shaping the engineering solutions that are required.
